DAFTER, Mich.- Cloverland Electric Cooperative announces the slate of director candidates eligible for election to its board of directors. As a member-owned and democratically -controlled electric utility, Cloverland Electric members elect representatives from their districts to serve on the co-op’s nine-member board of directors.
Cloverland’s service area is divided into three membership districts with each district represented by three board members elected to serve a three-year term. One board seat is up for election in each district every year. In District A, incumbent Director Richard Newland of DeTour Village is running unopposed. In District B, challenger Carmine J. Bonacci of Sault Ste. Marie; challenger Patrick Egan of Brimley; and incumbent director Charles F. Litzner of Sault Ste. Marie are on the ballot. In District C, incumbent Director Ronald Provo of Manistique is also running unopposed. Members interested in pursuing a board seat are required to file a nominating petition with the signatures of at least 25 members from within their respective districts. The deadline for submitting petitions was March 6.
“This is democracy in action in its purest form,” says Dan Dasho, Cloverland’s president and CEO. “For 76 years, Cloverland members have elected local representatives to serve on the board to provide governance and work with management to establish strategic goals for the benefit of the cooperative.
The candidates’ profiles will be published in the May/June issue of Michigan Country Lines. The magazine will have a special cover wrap that serves as a ballot. A courtesy postage-paid return envelope is also included in the magazine. Ballots must be returned no later than May 29. Election results will be announced at the co-op’s annual meeting on June 11 and posted on the co-op’s website—www.cloverland.com.
