Both the number of housing sales and the average selling price increased for the Sault area in 2014 compared to the year before based on numbers from the Canadian Real Estate Association.  The area gauged is served by the Sault Real Estate Board and it includes Wawa to the north and Elliot Lake to the east and everything in between including the city of Sault Ste. Marie.  The numbers show there were over 13-hundred units sold in 2014 up .8% compared to the year before.  The average selling price was also up by 4.2% to over 169-thousand-800-dollars. Housing activity in the three other major centres in the northeast was down and only the Sudbury area and Timmins area saw average prices increased.  Average prices in Sudbury area increased 1.9% reaching almost 250-thousand dollars.  The North Bay area had an average price of over 224-thousand dollars and the Timmins area over 160-thousand dollars.
