Mayor Provenzano Asks Residents to Support
Hometown Hockey Cheer Contest Winners

Mayor Christian Provenzano is asking residents of Sault Ste. Marie and area to support the Direct Mechanical Hounds in the national finals of the Rogers Hometown Hockey cheer contest.
The winner of the national final will be determined by which regional winner receives the most online votes for their cheer video. Voting takes place from March 29 to April 4. Videos can be viewed and votes cast at www.hometownhockey.com/cheer. Viewers can vote for their favourite video once per day during the voting period.
Provenzano says, “Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma residents always do a great job of supporting our own in these sorts of competitions. It would be awesome if we could send our local youth team to an NHL game, so I hope that everyone will support them in the cheer contest national finals.”
If Direct Mechanical wins the competition, their team will receive travel and accommodation to Toronto to watch the Maple Leafs take on the Montreal Canadiens on April 11, 2015. The contest winners will also get to watch a pre-game practice, tour the arena and perform their cheer in an NHL dressing room.
The Direct Mechanical Hounds were declared the regional cheer contest winner at the Sault Ste. Marie Hometown Hockey event held on February 28 – March 1. The festivities also included games, contests, visits from hockey celebrities and a live broadcast and outdoor NHL game viewing party on March 1.
“I’d like to reiterate our thanks to Rogers Hometown Hockey for coming to Sault Ste. Marie and making us part of the 2015 tour,” says Provenzano. “It was a terrific weekend of celebrating both hockey and community and we’re very grateful to have been a part of it.”
