Supplied by the Huron Superior Catholic District School Board… Sault Ste. Marie:  The Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board (HSCDSB) is pleased to announce that graduation rates for its secondary students are comparable to the provincial rate in both cohorts.

Provincial calculations show that 76% of 4-year students from the 2009-2010 cohort graduated in 2014.  The HSCDSB graduation rate for the same cohort was 80%.  The provincial graduation rate for 5-year students was 84% just above the HSCDSB’s 83% graduating rate.

The four and five year graduation rate for students who began secondary school with HSCDSB and graduated from the board is significantly higher than the provincial average.  The 4-year graduation rate was 86% while the 5-year rate was 87%.  It should be noted that 5-year graduates are students who choose to spend another year in secondary school taking courses that better prepare them for post-secondary education.

“We feel that the Board’s focus on its Multi-Year Strategic Plan played a vital role in these results.  The dedication of our administrators, principals and teachers to follow through on this multi-faceted approach to student success is to be commended,” said HSCDSB Director of Education, John Stadnyk.

“It was our goal to see our secondary students graduate at a rate at or above the provincial standard and we achieved it.  There is room for improvement and we intend on enhancing our programs and initiatives to further enable our students to succeed,” added Stadnyk.

The HSCDSB graduation rates for four year and five year students showed no significant difference when it came to gender.
