It’s wedding season, and whether you love or hate attending them, you can definitely agree that they are expensive. The American Express Spending & Tracker Survey estimates the average wedding guest this year will spend $673. That’s up 14 percent from last year, and nearly double the amount spent by guests in 2012. Members of the wedding party are in worse shape than regular guests, spending an average of $701 this year, while in 2014 they spent just $618. Most of the rising costs for regular guests is due to airfare expenses climbing ($225 per person, up 125 percent from 2014.) Hotel accommodations also rose 86 percent since last year, while the cost of dining out also rose 90 percent over the same period. Maybe because it costs so much to get there, the average wedding gift has dropped from $109 in 2014 to $106 this year. If you have to just decline your invitation don’t feel guilty, 43 percent of Americans say they’ve opted out of attending due to financial reasons. (Yahoo) (Image: Flickr.com)
