Marie – The province is recognizing Sault Ste. Marie resident, Sandra Houston, for her long-term community involvement and dedication to volunteerism, with the Leading Women Building Communities Award, David Orazietti MPP announced today.

“As an MPP, it is an honour to present Sandra Houston with an award that recognizes her leadership which has made a real difference in our community,” said Orazietti.  “By recognizing the achievements and hard work of outstanding women, this serves as an inspiration to all Ontarians to help make our province a better place.”

This year marks the 10th anniversary of Ontario’s Leading Women Building Communities Recognition Program. The awards program recognizes women who show leadership, build stronger communities and improve the lives of others through their work, activism or volunteer activities.

Sandra was nominated by David Orazietti MPP for this award.  Sandra has volunteered in Sault Ste. Marie for close to 50 years and is well recognized in the arts community.  She is a recognized mentor to artists and has encouraged many to share their skills and talents at workshops and in the classroom.

Celebrating the achievements of women and girls is part of the government’s four-part plan to build Ontario up by investing in people’s talents and skills, building new public infrastructure like roads and transit, creating a dynamic, supportive environment where business thrives, and building a secure savings plan so everyone can afford to retire.
