Lots of humans are allergic to the dander, saliva and fur or hair of cats and dogs. It turns out our dogs and cats can actually be allergic to us too. Experts say that our pets can react to proteins found in our dander, microscopic cells that shed from our skin and hair. About a decade ago a study proved that humans can trigger asthma attacks in cats. It’s estimated that about one in 200 felines suffers from the condition. Veterinarian Christine Cain says, “It always makes owners kind of sad if their [the pet’s] reaction is to human dander,” but that it often indicates other allergies and the pet can be treated with medication just like a person would.
