City Police City police news release…
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to remind the public that 911 is for emergency purposes.
Our Service has received 911 calls of people asking for phone numbers for businesses, children playing with phones or phones “pocket dialing” 911.
Also please refrain from calling 911 for directions, road conditions, how long power may be out during an outage and why the internet is down.
Some parents will give their old deactivated cell phones to children to play with.  Keep in mind if there is power to the phone it is capable of dialing 911.
When 911 calls are received police are mandated to determine the source and if an emergency exists. This process ties up our communication operators, officers and our 911 lines, which are all needed for real emergencies.
In addition persons who are deliberately misusing the 911 system could face criminal charges.
Do you part and help keep our phone lines open for emergency purposes.
