On Friday May 8th, 2015 local police services will be joining forces for Prescription Drug Drop Off Day.  

Prescription medications can be misused in ways not intended by the physician who prescribed them. o assist in the misuse of prescription medication Prescription Drug Drop Off Day is a way to collect unused or expired medications. 

Uniformed officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, the Ontario Provincial Police Service, the Anishinabek Police Service and the Batchewana Police Service will be at two collection locations.  They will be assisted by pharmacy team members from the Group Health Centre Pharmacy and MacKay’s Island Pharmacy. 

There will be two locations that people can bring their unused or expired prescription medications to for safe disposal: 

1) The Seniors Drop In Centre at 619 Bay Street  

2) The Station Mall near Walmart  

Collections will take place between 10 am and 4 pm.

Chief Keetch, along with other police leaders in Ontario and Canada, support this effective drug-abuse prevention strategy.  

It is hoped that Prescription Drug Drop Off Day will encourage residents to dispose of unused or expired prescription medications in a safe manner as well as allowing for environmentally safe disposal.
