LakeLevelsThe levels of Lakes Superior and Michigan-Huron are expected to continue their seasonal rise.  That’s what the International Lake Superior Board Of Control is reporting will happen in May.  The board reports that their outflow will be 24 hundred cubic metres per second for this month.  On May 1st, 12 gates were partially opened to reduce the risk of ice-related issues and to spread the water flow across the width of the rapids more evenly.  Meantime, the levels of Lakes Superior and Michigan-Huron rose last month by an average of 7 cm.  The levels usually rise an average of 9 and a half centimeters in April.  Lake Superior’s level is up 14 centimetres from this time last year and Lakes Michigan-Huron levels are up 39 centimetrs from April 2014.   The board is also reporting that Lake Superior has a mean water level of 183 metres — 19 centimetres above the long-term average for April and the highest April level since 1997.  Lakes Michigan-Huron has a mean water level of 176.5 metres — 16 centimeres above the long-term average for April and the highest April level since 1998.  Lakes Superior and Michigan-Huron are at levels an average of 42 centimetres above their chart datum level.
