It was announced this week that the Sault Ste. Marie Housing Corporation will implement a Smoke-Free Policy.  The policy will be in effect on October 1st for all of the corporation’s buildings and units.  This is being done to provide a healthier environment for tenants, guests and staff and service personnel. Some of the benefits of having the policy are a reduced risk of fire, lower maintenance, cleaning and move-out costs and fewer complaints related to second-hand smoke. However, the policy will not affect current tenants with an existing legal lease agreement.  All current tenants will be grandfathered for the duration of their occupancies, but it will apply to all new tenants or existing tenants choosing to move into a new building or unit on or after October 1st.
