DNRThis is the Memorial Day weekend in the U-S.  With that in mind, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources has some advice to make this weekend a safe one.  Among the tips:

— Keep campfires small

— Never leave a fire unattended

— Be sure to have water close at hand or nearby

— Drown a campfire with water and then stirring it when putting it out

— Dispose of charcoal by dunking pieces in water and placing them into a metal container

— Only use fireworks at parking lots, on gravel or in dirt-covered areas.

The DNR has responded to 254 fires that have burned 26 hundred acres so far this season.
