(Sault Ste. Marie, ON) The City of Sault Ste. Marie along with the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) celebrated the benefits of being a host gaming site at a June 1 community recognition event held at the Sault Area Hospital. To date, the City has received $24.1 million in slot revenue for hosting OLG Casino Sault Ste. Marie.
“The City’s share of OLG Casino proceeds has resulted in a contribution of $14.5 million of a total municipal commitment of $29.5 million to the Sault Area Hospital infrastructure. Casino revenues have also been allocated for physician recruitment and to assist with police and fire costs,” says Sault Ste. Marie Mayor Christian Provenzano. “Going forward, OLG proceeds will continue to support important community initiatives, including the City’s asset management plan.”
“OLG is especially proud of the relationship we’ve built in Sault Ste. Marie,” said Lisa Bell-Murray, OLG’s Vice President, Controller. “Each and every year 100 per cent of OLG proceeds are invested in Ontario. From healthcare, to education, to community festivals, OLG proceeds are hard at work in Sault Ste. Marie and all across our province. And, we appreciate the contribution of all our OLG employees in Sault Ste. Marie in making life in this community that much richer.”
During the event, the City presented a certificate of appreciation to OLG recognizing the significant contributions provided to the Sault Ste. Marie community through Casino proceeds. OLG’s Quest for Gold athletes Brad Jacobs and BJ Marcoux were also acknowledged for their participation in the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games Torch Relay, presented by President’s Choice® and OLG.
