Marie stop of the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games Torch Relay evening celebration. The event was held last night at Roberta Bondar Pavilion. Sault Search and Rescue was awarded $5,000 for first place. “This win is fantastic!” said Ontario Provincial Police Constable Monique Baker who was playing on behalf of the charity along with Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Constable Alison Kirkpatrick. “It was a great way for the Pan Am games, OLG and the local community to come together.”

Sault Search and rescue squared off against another local charity, Pauline’s Place, which was represented by local businessman and Pan Am Torchbearer, Joe Ruscio and his teammate, Mike Braykovich. As the runner up in the challenge, Pauline’s Place received a cheque for $2,500. That amount was matched by Joe, who also donated $2,500. The “ALL FOR COMMUNITY CHALLENGE” recipients are all charities or not-for-profit organizations in their community. The local charities and not-for-profits were invited to participate in a draw and were randomly selected for the Challenge. The “ALL FOR COMMUNITY CHALLENGE” is part of OLG’s Pan Am sponsorship and aligns with OLG’s long standing commitment and connection to communities across Ontario. Just as the torch relay will leave behind indelible memories of the excitement of the Games, the ‘ALL FOR COMMUNITY CHALLENGE’ will enable local charities to continue to create lasting legacies in their own communities.. The Pan Am Games Torch Relay began in Canada on May 30, 2015. The 41-day journey shares the Pan Am Games spirit in more than 130 communities and makes its final stop on July 10, 2015, at the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games Opening Ceremony in Toronto.
