SSMPSA busy time for City Police as officers responded to three accidents early Wednesday morning.  The first occured around 5:00 a.m. on Second Line West at Carpin Beach Road and involved a horse and a minivan that suffered extensive damage. The driver of vehicle suffered minor injuries, while the horse died at the scene.

The second happened at the intersection of Great Northern Road and Northern Avenue East around 6:45 a.m.  An investigation revealed that a female pedestrian was walking east across Great Northern in the crosswalk and was struck by an SUV that was turning left to head north from Northern Avenue onto Great Northern.  The pedestrian was taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment of serious but non-life threatening injuries.  The driver of the vehicle — a 73 year old female — was charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian.

The third accident happened 15 minutes later — a person had been struck by a vehicle behind a business in the north end of the city.  It’s alleged that the accused was driving his vehicle while an acquaintance was on the hood of the car and fell off resulting in serious but non-life threatening injuries.  A police investigation resulted in the arrest of 23 year old Dwayne Grawberger of First Avenue.  He will appear in court on August 17th to face a charge of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm.
