When you think of kissing you likely think of romance, but it turns out not everybody does. Researchers used data from two large surveys and interviews to gather information on 168 cultures. The data revealed that just 46 percent of the cultures had evidence of romantic-sexual kisses, while 54 percent did not. Universities of Nevada and Indiana researchers observed that cultures that partake in this kissing are more likely to be complex societies, and say it’s “remarkable” that this type of kissing appears to have emerged late in human evolutionary history. It’s unclear how this behavior became so common in some places with scientists noting that “It cannot simply be due to copying the behaviors of the global elites.” They say proof of this lies in the fact that some people’s first reaction to seeing outsiders kissing is “gross.” (Newser) (Image: en.wikipedia.org)
