SaultMISault, Michigan City Commissioners will be asked to approve a contract on Monday between the city and Sault Police Auxiliary. The agreement would solidfy the existing relationship between both parties.  This would come in the form of allowing an exchange of funds between the city and the auxiliary as a corporation. It would also further formalize other aspects of the relationship between both parties.  This would range from terms of employment, insurances, volunteer events and other budgetary issues.  The contract comes as the city’s Police Auxiliary Unit has experienced a number of progressions over the last 12 to 18 months.

Sault, Michigan could soon have a Marine Services Zoning District.  The next step in establishing that area is scheduled for Monday’s City Commission meeting.  The idea resulted from a request from MCM Marine to rezone to allow for more intensive uses on the property — that request was done more than a year ago.  There have been many requests to rezone and have the MCM property cleaned up and concerns have also been raised over the noise, dust issues and condition of the MCM property since that time.  The issue went back to the Planning Commission back in January to create the new zoning district.  This would allow uses on that property that are part of MCM’s business model, but not be as flexible as the I-2 Zoning District in terms of other industrial uses.  A recommendation is being made to approve the ordinance creating the district and schedule a Second Reading for the August 3rd Commission meeting.  A second recommendation is that the city’s Plannning Committee provide feedback on MCM’s requested modification on the ordinance language at the committee’s meeting this Thursday.  That feedback would be presented at the next Commission meeting in two weeks. If approved, the new district could be established as early as mid to late fall.
