ForestFireThe Ministry of Natural Resources reported a total of 10 new fires in the Northeast region.  Of these blazes, only three were not immediately put out.  The number of active fires in the region was at 15 as of late Friday afternoon, Sudbury 38 remains at about 438 hectares in size with crews continuing to make some progress.  An Emergency Area Order implemented around Sudbury 38 last Friday remains in effect.  The fire east of Highway 144 and northeast of Halfway Lake Provincial Park was about 60 percent contained.  There are 15 fires burning in Northeastern Ontario right now — two are not under control, two are being held, two are under control and nine others are being observed.  Most of the Northeast is under a low to moderate fire hazard.  The area at greatest risk for forest fires is the area from Greater Sudbury to Sault Ste. Marie, which is under a high fire hazard.
