SportsTwo straight wins for the Soo Thunderbirds to kick off their NOJHL season.  The Thunderbirds outshot their opposition 49-14 and got goals from five different players to double the Soo Eagles 6 to 3.  Nathan Hebert, Caleb Boman and Brett Jeffries each scored one goal and one assist for the winners.  Matthew Caruso added two assists for the Thunderbirds.

A tough day for Lake State tennis.  The men’s team fell to Cornerstone 5-4, while the women dropped their third match of the season 7-2 to Walsh College.  The women’s team plays Ashland today.  Lake State hosted the second annual Chris Yanni Memorial Invitational cross country races yesterday.  Senior Adam Brikeland finished third in the men’s race — Laker freshman Lydia Heimonen finished fifth in the women’s event.  Both the men’s and women’s teams finished in second place overall.
