CitySSMThe Greyhound Bus Depot will remain right where it is.  Nearly three years after it was given a temporary home at 503 Trunk Road, Council decided to make that location permanent through a rezoning application.  As a result, taxi and limousine services will also be provided there.  A number of U-Haul trucks are already there on a regular basis.  Prior to Monday night’s decision, Silver Birch Road resident Vivienne Burns addressed her issue with increased traffic and the unslightly condition of the back of the Trunk Road building.  The building’s owner did agree to a condition of a wooden fence being built with the rezoning.  He would bring that request to the owners as part of ‘building renovations’.

Council also approved a motion to allow a B-C company — Seon Systems of Coquitlam — to supply and install a mobile video surveillance system on Soo Transit buses.  Ward 5 councillor Marchy Bruni had asked a question about who would do the work in the case of any of that equipment needing repair.  Public Works and Transportation Commissioner Larry Girardi responded that transit would not have to go far for repairs with Sudbury, Timmins and Thunder Bay using similar monitoring equipment.  Ward 1 councillor Steve Butland mentioned the 80 thousand to 100 thousand dollar cost, adding that it was worth it given the ‘minor incidents’ on city transit every day.  He feels the cameras will move those situations away from ‘he said, she said’.
