SSMPoliceThe following is from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service:

On the 1st of November, 2015 at approximately 01:51hrs, City Police responded to a report of a Motor Vehicle Collision on Wellington St. West in the area of the underpass.  On arrival a 37 year old male pedestrian was found suffering from life threatening injuries.  EMS arrived on scene and the pedestrian was transported to the Sault Area Hospital, where despite  efforts of EMS and SAH personnel he succumbed to his injuries.

Initial investigation revealed that the pedestrian was struck in the westbound lane by a westbound Dodge Caravan.  Officers from Traffic Services with the assistance of Patrol, Forensic and Investigation Services are continuing the investigation under the direction of the Ontario Coroner.

The westbound lanes of Wellington St. West have now reopened after being closed for approximately 6 hours.
