ForestFireAviation Forest Fire and Emergency Services has released its year-end Forest Fire Report.  The forest fire activity for this season was described as steady but below average.  There were 314 recorded fire starts in Northeastern Ontario and more than 56 hundred hectares burned.  About 85 percent of the area burned was in the Cochrane and Hearst areas.  The remaining hectares were spread across the rest of the Northeast.  Of the 314 fire starts, 186 were caused by people while lightning counted for the 128.  With the below average season, Fire Rangers had more time to learn many different training opportunities.  Some of the training courses included wildland fire engine training and chainsaw certification training.
