CatholicBoardThe Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board is hosting a unique event on Wednesday morning.  The board’s Aboriginal Youth Entrepreneurship Program will welcome a representative from the Martin Aboriginal Education Institute at St. Mary’s College at 10:00 a.m.  That’s when an informal ‘meet and greet’ with Institute Education Co-ordinator Pat Rose will take place with a smudge, drumming and prayer.  A luncheon by students in St. Mary’s Hospitality and Tourism program will follow at 11:00 a.m.  The institute is an intiative that seeks to improve elementary and secondary school education outcomes for Aboriginal Canadians through the implementation of specific programs and the application of appropriate research. One of the related goals of the institute is to eliminate the gaps in Aboriginal elementary and secondary education in partnership with First Nations, Métis Nation and Inuit.  It also works to promote a better understanding of the experiences of Aboriginal Peoples’ culture, experiences, rights and history and to build a foundation of aboriginal-based knowledge and learning practices that can be used as a resource for teachers and students across Canada.
