Supplied… (Sault Ste. Marie, ON) The City of Sault Ste. Marie is adjusting its hours of operation for services and facilities during the holiday season. Administrative offices Administrative offices close Dec. 24 at noon, and will be closed Dec. 25, 28 and Jan. 1. This includes the Civic Centre, Sault Transit, Social Services (Ontario Works, Community Child Care, and Accessibility) and Public Works and Transportation (PWT). Call 705-759-5201 for emergency PWT service requests. Arenas City-operated arenas (John Rhodes and McMeeken) and the Northern Community Centre will close at 4 p.m. Dec. 24. All facilities are closed Dec. 25 and 26 with the exception of John Rhodes arena #1 which is open 1-3 p.m. on Boxing Day for a free Tim Hortons Skate. All facilities are closed Dec. 28 and Jan. 1 with the exception of John Rhodes arena #1 which is open 1-3 p.m. on both dates for a free Tim Hortons Skate. Both arenas and the Northern Community Centre will close at 4 p.m. Dec. 31. Children’s Centres Maycourt, Jessie Irving, and the Best Start Program at the Holy Family site are closed Dec. 25 and also Dec. 28 to January 1 inclusive. Ermatinger•Clergue National Historic Site The site is closed December 24 to January 4 inclusive. Essar Centre The administrative office and Box Office closes Dec. 24 at 4:30 p.m. The Essar facility is closed Dec. 25 and 26. Open Dec. 27 for scheduled events. Administrative office is closed Dec. 28. The Box Office is open Dec. 28 for regular business hours and the Soo Greyhounds game. Administrative office and Box Office closes Dec. 31 at 4:30 p.m. Facility is closed January 1. John Rhodes Community Centre Pool The pool is closed Dec. 25. Library The Centennial Library and Churchill and Korah branches close Dec. 24 at noon and will be closed to the public Dec. 25, 26, and 28. All libraries close Dec. 31 at 4:30 p.m. and will be closed to the public January 1. Refuse and Recycling Collection There is no collection Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. If you normally receive refuse and recycling collection on Friday, put your containers/carts out Saturday, Dec. 26 and Saturday, Jan. 2. Please recycle cardboard, steel cans, aluminum containers, glass bottles, #1 and #2 plastics, and all wrapping paper that is not foil or cellophane. Christmas trees and packaging Styrofoam can be dropped off at the Clean North collection depot at the Cambrian Mall parking lot Dec. 26 to Jan. 9. Place Styrofoam in clear plastic bags to keep clean and dry. The Landfill site located at 402 Fifth Line East will close Dec. 24 at 2 p.m. and will be closed to the public Dec. 25, 28 and Jan. 1. The site is open 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Boxing Day, Dec. 26 and Saturday, Jan. 2. Seniors’ Centres (Drop-In & Steelton) Both Centres will close Dec. 24 at noon will be closed Dec. 25 to January 1 inclusive. Sault Transit The Transit administrative office is closed Dec. 25, 28 and Jan. 1. Last buses depart from the terminal at 5:45 p.m. Dec. 24. Regular transit will not operate Dec. 25 and 26. Parabus service will run Dec. 25 and 26. Last buses depart from the terminal at 11:45 p.m. Dec. 31. There is no regular transit or Parabus service January 1. Marie Parking Enforcement Section is pleased to provide free parking at all meters including pay and display units, and in the two-hour municipal parking lots in the downtown area effective Monday, December 21, 2015 to Friday, January 1, 2016. This holiday exemption does not include parking in: handicap spaces without a permit, no parking areas, fire routes, and private (permit only) lots. Paid parking will resume Monday, January 4, 2016.
