The City of Sault Ste. Marie is encouraging residents to recycle their Christmas trees, saving landfill space and disposal costs.  Residents can recycle their trees by dropping them off at one of five (5) free, drop-off, recycling sites located throughout the City.  The program runs from December 26, 2016 to January 16, 2016.  In addition to the drop-off locations, residents within the City of Sault Ste. Marie city-limits may place their tree curbside and it will be recycled by the Department of Public Works.  NOTE: The trees must have all decorations, ornaments, tinsel, lights and stands removed.  Flocked trees cannot be recycled.   The Residential Christmas Tree Recycling Program runs December 26, 2016 – January 16, 2016.  Residents may drop off their trees at one of the following 5 free drop-off locations Sherman Park Entrance, Ball field at 8th and Meridian, Peck Street Community Gardens, Department of Public Works, and the Aune Osborn Boat Launch.

The City Compost facility will be open today, Monday, December 28, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  to allow for residents to drop off brush and/or limbs from last week’s storm.    The City Compost Facility entrance is located off Easterday Avenue by the Street Department Yard (1244 E. Easterday Ave).

On the Ontario side – we’ve yet to receive any news release but in the past Clean North was recycling Christmas trees in the parking lot of Cambrian Mall.
