Searchmont Resort Set to Open Friday

Supplied by Searchmont… Sault Ste. Marie, ON (January 4, 2016) – Attention skiers and snowboarders: Searchmont Resort is scheduled to open on Friday, January 8. With sub-zero temperatures this past week, the snow-makers have been blazing non-stop for several days, and a solid base is now present.

To make snow and have it stay, the temperature needs to be -4 degrees or cooler for at least four days. With unusually warm weather for most of December, snow-making was not possible for a majority of the month. Given the circumstances, January 8 was the earliest possible opening date.

On a plus note, Searchmont Resort will be offering a better overall experience for ski and snowboard users in 2016. During the off-season, a number of major renovations took place at the hill. Made possible with investments from senior levels of government, the enhancements include:

” Upgrades to the ski lifts and improvements to the hill terrain; ” Overhauls of the snow-making equipment; and ” Restoration of the main groomer and the purchase of two newer groomers designed for heavier use.
