The Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is reminding anyone operating an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), commonly known as a drone, that it is your responsibility to fly your UAV safely and legally.

The OPP is committed to ensuring the safety and security of the communities it serves. Flying a UAV can be enjoyed safely by hobby or recreational enthusiasts. As an operator of an UAV you must respect the Canadian Aviation Regulations.  You must follow the rules in all acts and regulations—including the Criminal Code as well as all federal, municipal, provincial, and territorial laws regarding issues such as trespassing and privacy.

Do not fly:

  • Closer than nine kilometres from an airport, heliport,      or aerodrome.
  • Higher than 90 metres above the ground.
  • Closer than 150 metres from people, animals, buildings,      structures, or vehicles.

The Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police is committed to ensuring the safety and security of the communities it serves. Acting Detachment Commander Staff Sergeant Baldassare Nuccio reminds UAV operators to avoid flying over private property or taking photos or videos without permission.
