MANY BRITISH PEOPLE DON’T KNOW THEIR NEIGHBORS: Technology means we can speak to someone on the other side of the world instantly, but does that mean we’ve stopped caring about who lives right next door? A survey of British adults by bank First Direct found that 34 percent of 25 to 34-year-olds don’t  know the names of their neighbors, but more than half of respondents over age 55 knew their neighbors so well that they chatted with them regularly. Furthermore, 20 percent of those over age 65, and 10 percent of those over 55 say they consider their neighbors friends, and 75 percent of those who said they had a positive relationship with their neighbors reported feeling happier in general and more positive about where they lived. On the flip side, more than half of people who did not like their neighbors say it makes them want to move. Also, there’s hope for the younger generation as one in five 18 to 34-year-olds said they want to improve their relations with their neighbors, compared to just one in 20 over age 55 who said the same. Young people also admitted they didn’t know their neighbors better because they did not feel confident enough to introduce themselves. (Daily Mail)
