Lots of people share too much on social media, but you may be revealing things without even being aware of it. Now a developer has discovered that using the “time stamps” taken from Facebook Messenger, one can determine the sleeping habits of their Facebook friends. San Francisco-based software engineer Søren Louv-Jansen wrote a blog about how he found a list of his Facebook friends’ user IDs and last activity time stamps. He was able to find this information in the initial mark-up of Messenger.com, and it can be viewed by anyone by simply visiting the website and clicking “View Source” to see for yourself. Louv-Jansen explains, “Many people visit Facebook as the first thing in the morning, and the last thing before going to bed. It is therefore possible to get a good impression of their sleeping habits. Everyone I’ve shown has been equally fascinated and outraged by the accuracy with which it predicts their sleep habits. In this digital world we leave footprints where we go…[Facebook] is likely using this data for profiling, and creating more user-specific ads.” (Daily Mail) (Image: Pixabay.com)
