The St. Mary’s College dance team put in very strong performance in its first dance competition in Vaughan last weekend. Their hip hop and lyrical dance routines received High Gold standing with scores of 89.84 and 89.83 respectively. The team’s jazz dance routine received Platinum standing with a score of 91.74. In addition, the jazz dance won two overall awards. This dance won ‘Best In Jazz’, indicating the team earned the highest score of all jazz dance routines entered in the competition, and ‘3rd Overall Group Award’, indicating the team received the third highest score of all routines entered in the intermediate age category. The SMC dance team was the only secondary school team in the competition, which featured dance teams from clubs from across the province. The SMC team is comprised of students from various grades with various levels of experience in dance. “I am so proud of the team and would like to congratulate the dancers, and members of the Dance Council: Katie Lepore, Kristin DeAmorim, and Emily Rivers,” said dance teacher, Tara Calvano. “A special thank you goes out to our talented choreographers, Katie Lepore and Kristin DeAmorim, for all their efforts.
