news-St. Mary's River A kick off celebration for a multi million dollar habitat restoration project on the St. Mary’s River will be held this afternoon in the Michigan Sault.  After decades of planning, a key project to restore the Little Rapids portion of the St. Mary’s River has begun.  The project involves the construction of a new bridge to replace two undersized causeway culverts between the island ferry dock and Sugar Island  proper.  The 9.4-million dollars in Great Lakes Restoration Initiative funding through the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is being provided to support the project.  A kick off ceremony is scheduled for 1 o’clock at Rotary Park.  It is expected that the bridge construction will be completed by November.
