On behalf of the United Way of Sault Ste. Marie and district, the Community Endowment Fund, the mayor’s office and the golf organizing committee thank you to everyone who participated in the 2016 United Way Mayor’s Charity Golf Classic held Monday June 20th at the Sault Ste. Marie Golf Course.

Together with our presenting sponsor Algoma’s Water Tower Inn & Suites, our business sponsors, individual sponsors and the golfers we raised $52,421 for our community!

This year the funds raised will support the work of the Community Endowment Fund. The Fund was established in 1988 to serve the broad community of local charitable organizations with capital funding and emergency assistance. The Fund is committed to providing funding from their investment income to worthy community projects under five pillars: social services, education, arts, sports and health care. All registered charities in Sault Ste. Marie and the surrounding district from White River to Elliot Lake are able to apply for funding.

Most recently the Community Endowment Fund provided grants for:
St. Joseph Island Museum – Ramps to ensure accessible and safe access to their facilities.
Art Gallery of Algoma – “Clay it Forward”, a community arts program that introduces participants to another medium.
Welcome Friends Association – Summer Camp Program, which provides opportunities for LBGTQ youth to connect with their peers and develop skills in a safe inclusive environment.
John Howard Society – Options Navigator, a community outreach program that helps individuals identify barriers to employment; training and connecting them with available resources.
