The Algoma District School Board (ADSB) advises parents and guardians of children at Chapleau JK-12 School that the school is open and is now resuming full operations without police presence.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have advised that they have the individual responsible for last week’s threat in custody and the individual has been charged.  The OPP will be releasing further details sometime today.

Director of Education, Lucia Reece notes, “We are grateful for the efforts and on-going support of the OPP in this matter.  Additionally, we want to thank our students, staff and parents whose cooperation, patience and understanding have been outstanding.  These situations demand the highest level of cooperation and teamwork possible and we have certainly seen that from all involved.”

Arrest Made
(CHAPLEAU, ON) – On Wednesday October 12, 2016 at approximately 9:00 am officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Superior East Chapleau Detachment were advised of a male making threats to a Chapleau Public School.  Due to the nature of the call the Chapleau Public School had been put in a lockdown.
As a result of an extensive joint investigation conducted by members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Superior East Detachments, the OPP Sault Ste. Marie Crime Unit and members of the Espanola Police Service a 16 year old Milton, Ontario male has been arrested and charged with the following offences;
” False Message contrary to section 372(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada,
” Uttering Threats contrary to section 264.1(1) of the CCC
” Public Mischief contrary to section 140(1) of the CCC
” Mischief contrary to section 430(4) of the CCC.
The accused has been held into custody and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola, Ontario.
