A total of 12-and-a-half million dollars in federal funding was announced this (Friday) morning to support education infratsructure involving our two post secondary institutions and the Shingwauk Education Trust.  Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Navdeep Bains announced that Sault College will be receiving 5 million of the funding to be put towards a new Institute of Environment, Education and Entrepreneurship or iE3.  College President Dr. Ron Common says this will expand their natural resources program and will allow the college to develop new curriculam and programs and meet a need when it comes to forming partnerships with industry…

 

With this announcement, the College has now secured 16.2 million dollars for the 18.2 million dollar facility.
5-million is also being provided to the Shingwauk Education Trust for the Shingwauk Discovery Centre to be built across Queen Street from Algoma University.  Trust President Darrell Boissoneau says the Shingwauk Discovery Centre would have space for classroom learning, research, and archiving material…

 

The centre is described as a multi-purpose facility that would provide space for archiving material, a national Chiefs Llibrary and could possibly include a musuem of Anishinaabe historical artifacts.
Algoma University will be receiving 2.5-million dollars from the feds and 400-thousand dollars from the province for energy upgrades to Shingwauk Hall.
