Following a bail hearing, city police have identified both the victim and the man charged with murder in a weekend incident at 112 Wellington Street west and police have determined that the two were known to each other.
Police say there is no threat to public safety as this is not considered to be a random attack.
24-year old Cody Quesnel of 112 Wellington West has been charged with second degree murder—-that has been downgraded from the original charge of first degree murder, and the victim has been identified  as 22-year old Jacob Davey.
Staff Sergeant Jody Greco of the Criminal Investigations Branch says no weapon has been turned up at this point…

It is alleged there was an altercation at 112 Wellington Street west that led to the victim’s death and Staff Sergeant Greco talked about that altercation while providing an update to the local media at yesterday’s new conference at the Sault Police Services Building…

It is also alleged that after the homocide, the accused broke into a residence of a person known to him and assaulted that person by striking him with a garbage can before returning to his residence.
The 100 block of Wellington Street west remains closed at this time and will remain closed for the next few days as the investigation continues.
