The City’s Downtown Association is hoping there’s the will to keep free the existing downtown parking lots that provide for 2-hour free parking.
A consultant has been hired by the City to look into the issue and a committee was formed back in November which includes Downtown Association Manager Josh Ingram.
Ingram says the downtown merchants had covered the cost of the lots up to 2005—-since then the City has covered the costs…

Ingram says as a last resort in order to keep the lots free, a number of Association members have indicated they would be willing to help cover the costs of the lots.
The Downtown Association will be releasing a formal position next month and the city parking committee will be bringing back a recommendation to city council either late March or early April.
