City council has given its approval in principle to reducing its numbers by two councillors and eliminating one ward.
Council at last night’s meeting narrowly approved a proposal in a 7 to 6 vote to move from a 12 member 6 ward system to a 10 member 5 ward system.
Mayor Provenzano the chair of the council committee that looked into the issue cast the deciding vote giving approval in principle.
Its estimated the removal of the two council positions will result in annual savings of 50 to 60-thousand dollars.
City staff will now look to make the neccessary adjustments to ward boundaries and will report back to council.
