For the 4th consecutive year, distracted driving was a factor in the highest number of fatal accidents on OPP patrolled roads when compared to other factors known as the Big Four.
In 2016, 65 people died in which distracted driving was either a contributing factor or the primary cause.
The next closest was speed related with 55 deaths, 53 seatbelt related and 45 alcohol related deaths.

Also the number of snowmobile incidents resulting in deaths is almost double compared to this time last year.
The number of incidents resulting in deaths sits at 20 for the season compared to 8 incidents and 11 deaths at this time last year.
13 of the deaths have occurred within the past six weeks.
Police say the causes and contributing factors clearly reflect snowmobilers’ ongoing disregard for their own safety and that of their fellow riders and passengers.
