The employment rate in Sault Ste. Marie remains below 50% meaning there are more people not working in the Sault then employed.  Stats Canada has released its latest report and it shows the number of employed last month remains below 33-thousand as it did in March of a year ago.
The long-term average for the Sault is around 36-thousand.
The unemployment rate came in at 7.1%—-one percent below the year ago rate.
The participation rate fell slightly by half a percent to 52.5%—-it measures the number of people employed combined with those unemployed but actively looking for work.
