Sault Ste. Marie:  The Trustees of the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board (HSCDSB) have named Rose Burton Spohn as the Board’s new Director of Education.  Burton Spohn will begin her new duties on July 1, 2017.

“We are very pleased to make this announcement and are confident in Rose’s ability to be Director.  She has impressed us with her work as a superintendent and her dedication to Catholic education,” said HSCDSB Board Chair, John Caputo.

“I am very grateful that the Board of Trustees has placed their trust in me and very honoured to have been selected as Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board’s next Director of Education,” said Rose Burton Spohn.

“I look forward to collaborating with everyone within, and connected to, the system and to continue the long tradition of excellence in Catholic education that has already been established, both by John Stadnyk, and by his predecessors,” said Burton Spohn.

Burton Spohn joined the Board’s administration team in 2013 as a Superintendent of Education. While serving in that position she was charged with overseeing the Student Success initiative, as well as supervising schools such as St. Mary’s College, Holy Angels Learning Centre, Holy Family and Our Lady of Lourdes elementary schools, as well as the programs at St. Kateri Outdoor Learning Centre. Other portfolios under her responsibility include the New Teacher Induction Program, Parent Involvement Committee, and the Student Senate. She also oversees the Board’s Digital Learning Steering Committee.

“I was very impressed with the entire process involved in reaching this decision.  From the time that John Stadnyk announced his retirement, we began the process of securing the best possible replacement to fill the position of Director.  The entire Board community was involved through a consultation process via personal meetings and an online survey,” said Caputo.

“After compiling all of the feedback and recognizing the importance of this decision, the Board secured the services of an experienced search firm, Promeus Consultants, to guide the selection process. We were pleased to have a variety of qualified and experienced candidates apply for this position. We feel strongly about the effectiveness of the process and that it was thorough and fair,” added Caputo.

Burton Spohn is replacing Director of Education, John Stadnyk, who will retire on June 30, 2017.
