Atlanta, Michigan – The Soo Night Hawks travel baseball team opened its second season by competing in the first annual Border Wars Baseball Tournament in Atlanta Michigan on Saturday April 22 against Atlanta and Onaway Varsity teams; the first game saw the Night Hawks compete against Atlanta High School and pulling out a 9 to 1 victory, with a chance to win the tournament and trophy the Night Hawks took on Onaway and pulled out a 14 to 2 victory.

Braeden Whalen got the Nights Hawks season off to a great start with a complete game no-hitter picking up 14 strikeouts in winning the first game of the season.  Offensively Tyler Sayers, Noah O’Brien, and Malcolm McPhee all scored twice, while Brandon Boyer drove in three runs.  Tyler Sayers, Braedon Whalen, Jack McLeod, Brett Deschene, Brandon Boyer, Noah O’Brien and Malcolm McPhee all picked up hits in the victory.

In game two against Onaway Jack McLeod delivered another solid complete game victory, throwing a one hitter and striking out 10.  Offensively the team was led by Brennan Mitchell and Noah Thompson scoring three times each, and Brett Deschene and Stephane Giroux scoring twice each, Tyler Sayers contributed 3 RBIs.  Mitchell and Sayers had three hits a piece, also picking up hits in the victory were Jack McLeod, Noah Pearce, Stephen Bos, and Stephane Giroux.

Head Coach Steve Hurley added “For the teams first time outside on a baseball field this season, facing teams that had already played at least 6 games, the team competed very well.  It was a good opportunity to work in some of the new younger players.”
