Trustees with the Algoma District School Board have given its approval for the amalgamation of schools in both Wawa and Blind River combining elementary students with high school students.
The approval given at last night’s meeting will allow the Board to go forward with moving JK to grade 8 students from Blind River Public School to a new JK to grade 12 facility—-this would be contingent on the board receiving Ministry of Education Capital Funding for the facility.
In the event the Ministry does not approve a new facility, plans call for closing the elementary school and moving students to W.C. Eaket.
Government funding would still be required to retro-fit W.C. Eaket.
For Wawa, the approval allows for moving JK to grade 8 students from Sir James Dunn Public School to the Michipicoten High School site.
Again the plan is contingent on receiving Ministry of Education Capital Funding to allow for needed renovations to accomodate the elementary students.
