The much anticipated provincial approval and final commitment allowing for expansion of cardiac services at the Sault Area Hospital to include angioplasty treatment was announced yesterday at the local hospital by Minister of Health and Long Term Care Eric Hoskins.
Sault Area Hospital is already equipped with a state-of-the-art coronary angiography suite and the additional angioplasty procedure and will mean an additional nine full-time equivalent non-physician positions.
It will also mean renovations to existing space and the redevelopment of over 2-thousand square feet of undeveloped space next to it.
Hoskins could’n’t put an exact cost to the province’s commitment in fully funding operations once it is up and running…

Gagnon compared the impacts of securing such services to that of the radiation therapy bunker that has been provided since the new hospital opened…

Hospital President Ron Gagnon says their target is to have it operating by the end of 2018.
