Sault Ste. Marie, ON (2017 07 31) – The City’s selection committee has recommended Peter Johnson as the new Fire Chief for Sault Ste. Marie effective August 1, 2017. Mr. Johnson comes to the Fire Chief position with nearly 23 years of Fire Service experience, having served most recently as Deputy Fire Chief (Suppression) for the City of Sault Ste. Marie.
Mr. Johnson’s qualifications span leadership, project management, incident command, firefighting, fire prevention, public education and emergency medical services. His education and on-going professional development is extensive bringing a wealth of expertise, training and credentials in firefighting. Most recently he completed the comprehensive Fire Service Administration Program and the Fire Service Leadership program from Dalhousie University. Mr. Johnson also received the Ontario Fire College Company Officer Diploma and an Associates Degree in Fire Science from Lake Superior State University.
Throughout his career, he has demonstrated commitment to integrity, continuous improvement and maintained vigilant training to stay current in the field. Outside of his fire services duties, Johnson is active in the Sault Ste. Marie community coaching local junior football and hockey teams.

Marie Fire Services is comprised of 5 divisions including Fire Suppression, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Fire Prevention and Public Education, Support Services, and Community Emergency Management.
