(Sault Ste. Marie, ON) A major event is taking place in Sault Ste. Marie next year. Tourism Northern Ontario, in partnership with Nature & Outdoor Tourism Ontario and Tourism Sault Ste. Marie, is thrilled to announce the return of the Northern Ontario Tourism Summit to the community in November of 2018.

“Northern Ontario continues to be a leading destination of choice for travelers from around the world,” said David MacLachlan, Executive Director of Tourism Northern Ontario. “This one-of-a-kind summit helps the industry grow tourism opportunities in the North to keep up with a rising demand for visitor experiences. We look forward to working with Tourism Sault Ste. Marie on delivering another memorable event.”

Each year, the Northern Ontario Tourism Summit attracts more than 300 tourism operators, business owners and stakeholders to engage in tourism training, workshops and networking opportunities over the course of three days. The event has been extremely successful in past years. In fact, since 2014, conference organizers have leveraged over $200,000 in private and public partnerships each year.

“Our community last hosted the Northern Ontario Tourism Summit in 2015, and we’re very excited to see the event returning next year,” said Ian McMillan, Executive Director of Tourism Sault Ste. Marie. “We look forward to welcoming our tourism sector friends while showcasing our attractions and accommodations. This conference provides a great opportunity for our city, from both a tourism marketing and visitor spending perspective.”

The host location and specific dates of the 2018 Northern Ontario Tourism Summit will be announced this spring following a venue bid process.
