Sault Ste. Marie, ON (2017 12 18) – The City of Sault Ste. Marie would like to advise residents of its hours of operation for services provided during the holiday season.
Administrative Offices: Closed December 25, 26 and January 1. Includes the Cemetery office; Civic Centre; Essar Centre office; Sault Transit; and Public Works and Engineering Services. For 24 hour emergency service requests, call Public Works at 705.759.5201.
Arenas: City operated arenas (John Rhodes and McMeeken) and the Northern Community Centre will close December 24 at 4 p.m. All facilities are closed Dec. 25 reopening on December 27 for scheduled events. The John Rhodes arena 2 will offer public skating from 1-3 p.m. on December 26. The Northern Community Centre is open December 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for walking. All arenas and the Northern Community Centre are open December 31 until 4 p.m. for scheduled events only. All facilities are closed January 1 with the exception of the John Rhodes arena 2 which is open 1-3 p.m. for public skating.
Essar Centre: Administrative and Box Office is closed December 25 and 26. Open December 27 for scheduled events. Facility closes at 4 p.m. on December 31 and will be closed on January 1.

Ermatinger•Clergue National Historic Site: Closed December 24 to January 2.
Seniors’ Centres (Drop-In & Northern Community Centre): Closed December 25 to January 2 inclusive.
Public Library: The Centennial Library and Korah branch will be closed December 25 to 26. The Centennial Library and Korah branch will be open from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on December 31. All libraries will be closed January 1.
Refuse and Recycling Collection: There is no collection December 25 and January 1. Collection will be one day late for both weeks. There will be no bag limit during the week of December 25 and January 1 for those that recycle. All garbage must be in proper containers or bags and must meet the City’s weight restrictions. Please recycle cardboard, steel cans, aluminum containers, glass bottles, #1 and #2 plastics and all wrapping paper that is not foil or cellophane.
Christmas trees and clean white packaging Styrofoam, towels, blankets and books can be dropped off at the Clean North collection depot at the Cambrian Mall parking lot December 26 to January 13 with tree chipping scheduled for January 14.
The Landfill site located at 402 Fifth Line East will be closed December 25 – 26 and January 1.
Sault Ste. Marie Transit: Regular transit – last buses depart the terminal December 24 at 5:15 p.m. Regular transit will not operate December 25 and 26. Last buses depart the terminal December 31 at 6:15 p.m. No regular transit on January 1. Parabus service – last pick up or return on December 24 will be at 5:30 p.m. Parabus will run December 25 and 26. The last pick up or return on December 31 will be at 6:45 p.m. No Parabus service on January 1.
Free downtown parking: The City of Sault Ste. Marie Parking Division is pleased to provide free downtown parking this holiday season. Effective December 18, 2017 to January 1, 2018 free parking is available at all meters, pay and display units, and two-hour municipal parking lots in the downtown area. Please note that the holiday exemption does not include parking in
handicap spaces without a permit, any identified no parking areas, fire routes and private (permit only) lots.
