Supplied by the US Coast Guard…
SAULT SAINTE MARIE, MI- The Sugar Island Ferry and Neebish Island Ferry experienced service delays that are expected to continue into tomorrow due to current weather and ice conditions.

Winds and river current pushed large fields of dislodged ice between the ferry crossings. Coast Guard ice breakers are managing the current ice conditions, but interruptions in service will continue until weather conditions provide for a better opportunity for Coast Guard assets to flush ice through the southern part of the St. Marys River.

Island residents are encouraged to plan for an expected delay in ferry service.
