Both our provincial and federal political members issued statements yesterday in reaction to potential stiff US steel tariffs.
MPP Ross Romano took the opportunity to thank those that lobbied hard on behalf of Canada’s interests and he referred directly to the efforts of Mayor Provezano and MP Terry Sheehan that worked with him in the effort.
Romano also refers to the efforts of Michigan Senator Wayne Schmidt who recognizes the importance of Algoma and the significant impacts to Michigan’s econony if it were to close.
MP Sheehan says it is entirely inappropriate for the US imposing tariffs on the basis of national security and any reintroduction of tariffs into the NAFTA negotiations is unacceptable.
