June 4, 2018-Ottawa, ON – Terry Sheehan continues his fight for steel this week in Ottawa, jumping straight into fighting for the Canadian steel industry. Meeting together with the Prime Minister and the Canadian Steel Producers (which includes Algoma Steel and Tenaris), Mr. Sheehan reports the retaliatory measures announced by Canada are getting positive response in the Soo and across the Country.
“It’s important for our government to communicate regularly with affected industries. The Prime Minister is talking to people in person, the [steel] industry representatives were able to look him in the eye and express their concerns and see that the Prime Minister cares deeply about this issue.” Sheehan said.
MP Sheehan also joined the Finance Minister, The Honourable Bill Morneau, in meeting with Steel Industry representatives.
“The U.S. administration attacking our steel and aluminum industries on the basis of Canada being a national security threat is not only absurd, it is reckless and punitive and we are not, for one minute going to stand down from this fight.” says Sheehan.
Sheehan has further meetings scheduled tomorrow with Canadian Steel Producers and industry leaders. As co-chair for the All-Party Steel Caucus he has called a meeting for tomorrow evening to convene MP’s from all political backgrounds to work together for a positive outcome.
