Ross Romano of the PC’s was voted in again here in the Sault and will now have a full term to work with being part of a majority government led by Doug Ford.
Romano won a byelection a year ago to capture the riding for the PC’s for the first time in over 30-years.
He won last night narrrowly over the NDP’s Michele McCleave-Kennedy by just over 400 votes.
Jaclynne Hamel of the Liberals finished third but well back—more than 10-thousand vote less then Romano.
Romano says he wasn’t surprised that the race was tight and he offered this explanation…

Romano says he was knocking on doors right up to the last minutes before the close of the polls to get the vote out for the PC’s.
After congratulating the PC’s Ross Romano at the Marconi Club last night once the result was known, the NDP’s Michele McCleave-Kennedy talked to reporters and offered this reaction…

McCleave-Kennedy plans to run in the next provincial election for the NDP in the Sault Riding.
Romano also says the campaign featured some nastiness both to the party and for him personally something he has never experience in his political life…

Romano says priority items for him in the term ahead are Algoma and successfully exiting the CCAA process, US steel duties, the Ring of Fire and ferrochrome processing facility.

Over in Algoma-Manitoulin, the NDP’s Michael Mantha was elected for a third term winning easily by over 87-hundred votes.
The NDP did quite well in the northeast, taking 5 of 7 ridings with the PC’s taking the other 2.
